Who is Red Coyote?
Hello! I’m Lauren, an artist living in the mountains of Colorado. I have loved making art for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until college that I fully discovered ceramics.
In 2014, I was a Forestry and Studio Art student at Colorado State University when I took my first pottery class. I was hooked by the meditative process of wheel throwing and enthralled by the truly endless possibilities of working with clay.
I declared pottery as my concentration, and graduated with a BFA in Studio Art (Pottery) and a BS in Forestry (Forest Management) in 2018. After college, I continued to make pottery intermittently as I worked full-time for the US Forest Service. In 2021, I left the forestry field, and in 2023, I set up my home pottery studio in Park County, Colorado. In 2025 and beyond, I am taking the next steps to make art my life’s work.
My familiarity with the science of Colorado’s ecosystems as well as my love for animals inspire my work. I like to use bold but earthy colors and paint/carve images of plants and animals on my pots. I want my work to feel good in the hands, hold up to daily use, and look beautiful on your shelf!
